UP Electricity Tariff Hike: Electricity prices in Uttar Pradesh might rise soon. If the Electricity Regulatory Commission gives the green light to the Power Corporation’s proposal, the rates could go up by 35 to 45 percent.

UP Electricity Rate: A major hike in electricity rates is on the cards for consumers in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation has submitted a proposal to raise electricity tariffs. If approved by the UP Electricity Regulatory Commission, both urban and rural consumers will face higher bills. As per reports, rural residents may have to pay ₹8 per unit, while urban consumers could be charged ₹9 per unit.

In addition, urban consumers will see an increase in the fixed charge from the current ₹110 per kilowatt to ₹190 per kilowatt. For rural consumers, the fixed charge is set to rise from ₹90 to ₹150 per kilowatt. As a result, electricity in Uttar Pradesh will become significantly costlier, with rates possibly reaching ₹12 to ₹13 per unit.

Proposal sent to Electricity Regulatory Commission

The loss incurred by power companies is being cited as the major reason behind the increase in electricity prices in UP. The Power Corporation has shown a loss of Rs 19,644 crore in the financial year 2025-26 as per the current electricity rates, on the basis of which a proposal has been made to increase electricity rates by an average of 30 percent. In this, the maximum increase in electricity rates is proposed for rural and urban consumers. In such a situation, prices can increase by 35-45 percent for these consumers.
