Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday announced that winter vacations for students up to Class 8 in the winter zone of Kashmir will start from December 1. She added that the holidays for the remaining classes, up to Class 12, will begin in the second week of December.
Speaking to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Itoo confirmed that the proposal for declaring the winter break for lower classes had been approved. “The vacation for students up to the 8th standard will commence from December 1,” she said.
Regarding higher classes, she noted that their break would “most likely start from December 12 or 13.”
Earlier, Itoo had mentioned that due to the cold weather, the government was considering beginning the winter break for middle and lower classes in the first week of December, especially since many parents had been requesting an early schedule. She emphasized that the harsh winter conditions are challenging for younger children.
She further stated that the department had already held meetings to finalize the plan and that the tentative decision was to start holidays for Classes 1 to 8 in the first week of December.
On the issue of textbooks, the minister said that the situation had been significantly improved. She assured that instructions have been issued to prevent any shortage of books or uniforms.
Notably, KNO had earlier reported that the School Education Department was planning a phased announcement of winter vacations starting from the first week of December for the winter zone of Kashmir.
