Aadhaar PAN Card link: Link Aadhaar with PAN from home before December 31, learn the complete online process here

The deadline to link your Aadhaar with your PAN is December 31, 2025, and the process can be completed easily online from home. It is essential for Indian citizens to complete this linkage, as failing to do so will make their PAN inoperative from January 1, 2026. An inactive PAN can lead to several issues—such as being unable to file Income Tax Returns (ITR), not receiving tax refunds, difficulties in salary processing, and possible failures in SIP transactions.

There is no need to visit any office for this procedure; Aadhaar–PAN linking can be done entirely online in just a few simple steps.

Who must link Aadhaar and PAN by December 31?

To enhance transparency in tax filings, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has mandated the linking of Aadhaar with PAN. This is required for filing ITR. Individuals who were issued a PAN card on or before October 1, 2025, must complete the Aadhaar–PAN linking by December 31, 2025.

These individuals will also need to re-link their Aadhaar.

For your information, anyone who obtained a PAN using their Aadhaar enrollment ID will also need to relink it. Such users can easily link their Aadhaar to their PAN online through the Income Tax e-filing portal.

What will happen if I don’t link it?

If you don’t link your PAN and Aadhaar by December 31st, your income tax return will not be filed or verified. Your refund will be withheld, pending returns will not be processed, and TDS/TCS credits will not be reflected in Form 26AS. Additionally, TDS/TCS may be deducted or collected at higher rates. Once you link your PAN later, your PAN will usually become operational again within 30 days.
