Aadhaar Card Rules: From free service to online updates… these Aadhaar card rules have changed from today
The hassle of waiting in queues for Aadhaar updates has largely ended, as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a major reform effective from November 1. Under the new system, individuals can now update details such as their name, address, date of birth, and mobile number online through the MyAadhaar portal, as long as their Aadhaar is linked to an active mobile number.
This move significantly reduces the need to visit Aadhaar service centers for most updates. However, biometric changes — including fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs — will still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
UIDAI has also implemented auto-verification within its database, minimizing manual verification steps and enabling quicker and more accurate updates. Additionally, the fee for updating Aadhaar details has been waived for one year, making the entire process simpler, faster, and more convenient for users.
Starting today, UIDAI has introduced new Aadhaar update rules to make the process simpler and more efficient.
If your mobile number is linked and OTP verification is active, you no longer need to visit an Aadhaar centre to update your name, address, date of birth, or mobile number. UIDAI will now verify details using existing government databases, significantly cutting down on paperwork.
The biometric update fee remains ₹125 for most people, but it is free for children aged 5–7 and 15–17 years. Updating personal details like name or address separately costs ₹75, though this fee is waived if done along with a biometric update.
Additionally, document-based updates via the MyAadhaar portal will remain free until June 14, 2026, after which updates done at Aadhaar centres will continue to cost ₹75 per request.
UIDAI has once again emphasized that Aadhaar must be linked with PAN by December 31, 2025, warning that failure to do so could lead to PAN deactivation, limited access to services, and delays in KYC verification or tax refunds.
For the Aadhaar-PAN linking process, users must ensure that their Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active and OTP-enabled. If required, they should update their biometric details beforehand. It is also important to check the Aadhaar-PAN link status before the deadline and track the update through the MyAadhaar portal using the Update Request Number (URN).
According to UIDAI, these steps are designed to simplify citizen services, enhance digital access, and reduce reliance on physical Aadhaar centres for routine updates and verifications.
