
Food Safety Department Seizes 5 Quintals of Namkeen Snacks, Seals Manufacturing Unit
Srinagar, Oct 09: In a continued crackdown on the sale of unsafe and substandard food products, a team of Food Safety Officers, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Food Safety Srinagar, inspected a snack manufacturing unit located in Abhanshah, HMT Srinagar.
During the inspection, officials discovered that the unit was operating without a valid licence and in unhygienic conditions. Approximately five quintals of Namkeen snacks, including katlam and finni, were seized on-site, and samples were taken for further laboratory analysis.
Subsequently, the unit was sealed immediately and prohibited from carrying out further manufacturing activities. A complaint under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Rules & Regulations, 2011will be submitted before the competent court in due course of time.
Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Smitha Sethi, has directed all food business operators to strictly comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act and maintain proper hygiene and licensing requirements. She warned that stringent action will be taken against violators as per the law.
The department has also urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any complaints regarding food safety violations on the toll-free number 104.(GNS)
