J&K Govt Provides Additional 10 Kg Free Ration to AAY Beneficiaries Since April 2025; LPG Cylinder Proposal Under Review
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households in the region have been receiving an extra 10 kg of free ration per beneficiary since April 2025. Meanwhile, the proposal to provide 12 LPG cylinders annually to these families is still under review.
According to official documents cited by the news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) confirmed that the additional ration is being supplied under Government Order No. 25-JK (FCS&CA) of 2025, issued on April 2, 2025. The move aims to meet the increased food requirements of AAY families, particularly those with four or more members.
The department explained that the distribution process ensures that each beneficiary receives no more than 10 kg of ration under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
It further noted that the proposal to provide 12 LPG cylinders to AAY households is still under government consideration, as it involves a broader policy decision.
On the financial side, the department clarified that no separate budget has been earmarked for the purchase of the additional ration. The food grains are being provided free of cost to eligible beneficiaries in accordance with government directions, while expenses related to procurement, loading, unloading, and other operations are being covered through the department’s revolving fund account, according to Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
