The Jammu & Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has released an important notification stating that students must provide their Aadhaar number to apply for centrally sponsored scholarship schemes through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

This requirement has been enforced under Section (7) of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, which mandates Aadhaar-based verification for availing government-funded subsidies, scholarships, and other financial benefits.

According to the circular, Aadhaar authentication is now compulsory for students applying to the following schemes:

1๏ธโƒฃ National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS)
2๏ธโƒฃ Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (PM-USP)

  • Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College Students (PM-USP CSSS)
  • Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for University Students (PM-USP CSSS)

These schemes provide essential financial assistance to deserving students from economically weaker sections and support meritorious candidates pursuing higher studies.

Apart from authentication, Aadhaar ID will be required for generating the One-Time Registration (OTR) Number on NSP, which is now compulsory for students to apply for scholarships online.

JKBOSE has directed School Education authorities in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions to:

A detailed list of officials has been copied in the circular for necessary action, including:

  • Director of School Education, Jammu/Kashmir
  • Chief Education Officers of all districts
  • DIET Principals
  • Samagra Shiksha officials
  • Information Officers for press circulation

This ensures wide outreach, especially for Government school students preparing for NMMSS and other scholarship exams.
