No Extension in Winter Vacations; Jammu Summer Zone Schools to Reopen on Jan 12: Officials
Winter vacations for schools in the summer zone areas of Jammu division will end as scheduled, with authorities confirming that no extension has been approved. Officials issued the clarification on Friday to counter rumours suggesting a possible delay in reopening.
A senior Education Department official told news agency JKNS that all government and recognised private schools in the summer zones of Jammu division will resume classes on Monday, January 12, 2026, in accordance with the existing directive.
The official further stated that there is no plan under consideration to extend the winter break and that schools are expected to operate normally from Monday.
The official also reiterated that all teaching staff must report to their respective schools on Saturday, January 10, 2026, as specified in the original vacation directive.
This clarification was issued as the winter vacation notification, released on December 13, 2025, is due to lapse on Saturday.
Winter vacations for schools in the Jammu summer zone were announced in a phased manner starting December 13, 2025. As per the schedule, the break for all categories of students is set to conclude on January 10, 2026.
According to the order, students from pre-primary to Class 5 went on vacation from December 22, Classes 6 to 8 from December 26, and Classes 9 to 12 from December 29, with winter holidays ending for all classes on January 10.
