
SRINAGAR: Kashmir witnessed a sharp dip in temperatures as a harsh cold wave gripped the region, with Srinagar recording its lowest temperature of the season at –4.4°C. Other areas, including Shopian, Pulwama, Baramulla, and Anantnag, also faced severe sub-zero conditions.
According to figures shared by Kashmir Weather, Shopian was the coldest location in the Valley, plunging to –6.5°C, followed by Baramulla and Pulwama, both at –5.8°C. Pahalgam registered –5.0°C, and temperatures at Srinagar Airport slipped to –5.2°C. The most extreme chill was reported at Zojila Pass, where the mercury fell to –16.0°C.
In the Jammu region, conditions were relatively moderate. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 8.7°C, while Banihal dropped to –1.5°C and Bhaderwah hovered around 0.4°C. Katra and Kathua reported lows of 8.5°C and 8.2°C respectively.
Ladakh continued to face intense winter cold, with temperatures of –9.5°C in Kargil and –8.6°C in Leh. Nubra also remained deeply frozen at –7.7°C.
This widespread drop in temperatures highlights the strengthening winter grip across the Himalayan belt, prompting authorities to urge residents to take precautions as the cold wave persists.
