Weather Update in Jammu & Kashmir: Light Rain & Snow Expected at Intervals Till Jan 25
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has released a comprehensive weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting variable conditions over the coming two weeks. The outlook includes spells of cloudy weather along with light rain and snowfall, particularly in the higher areas of Kashmir and some parts of the Jammu region.
The forecast also indicates a gradual increase in minimum temperatures starting January 12, offering partial relief from the severe cold wave affecting the region. Despite this, dense fog is likely to continue in the plains of the Jammu division, potentially disrupting road, rail, and air transportation.

January 11 to 15
The weather across Jammu and Kashmir is expected to remain partly cloudy. No major precipitation activity is predicted during this period, allowing normal outdoor activities and travel.
January 16 and 17
The region will experience generally cloudy skies, with light rain and snowfall likely at isolated to scattered places, particularly over higher reaches of the Kashmir Division. Popular tourist destinations and mountainous areas may witness fresh snowfall.
January 18 and 19
Weather conditions will remain partly to generally cloudy, with no significant precipitation expected across most areas.
January 20
Skies will turn generally cloudy once again, with light rain or snowfall expected at isolated locations across the Union Territory.
January 21 to 23
Another spell of unsettled weather is likely, with partly to generally cloudy skies and light rain or snow at scattered places. This period may bring fresh snowfall in higher altitudes and light rainfall in lower areas.
January 24 and 25
The weather is expected to improve, remaining partly cloudy across most parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Temperature Trend: Cold to Ease Gradually
The MET Centre Srinagar has indicated a gradual rise in minimum temperatures from January 12 onwards. This means that the intense nighttime cold currently affecting the region is likely to ease slightly, although winter conditions will continue to prevail.
Fog Advisory for Jammu Division
A weather advisory has been issued for the plains of Jammu division, where moderate fog is expected, with dense fog at isolated places likely to continue for the next five days.
This may lead to:
- Reduced visibility on highways
- Delays in train and flight schedules
- Slower traffic movement during early morning and late-night hours
People travelling through Jammu plains are advised to drive carefully and follow traffic advisories.
